The film musical is a filmed musical, richly decorated with dance and song interludes. It has its roots in the USA, where it already celebrated success with the beginning of the talkies, almost at the same time as the triumph of the opulent stage musicals on Broadway. Film musicals are still popular today, even if current productions have become rather rare - yet modern film musicals like "Moulin Rouge", "Mamma Mia!" or Spielberg's "West Side Story" still have it all! The films in our collection certainly breathe the tradition of film musicals, but they tread their own charming paths in incorporating song and dance into the plot.
